We all need sleep. In fact, you can live longer without water or food than sleep, so it is really important. Sometimes, it can be difficult to fall asleep, so here are my sleeping tips.
Try to Stay Awake
When you want to sleep, do the opposite. It really works and there are lots of studies that prove it. Just tell yourself you want to stay awake. Try as hard as you can to STAY AWAKE. This will get you to sleep FAST. Nobody really knows why, but it really works.
Keep Cool.
Our bodies can't sleep well if they are too warm. Set the air conditioner or run a fan if needed to make the room cool. Around 65 F is the perfect sleeping temp, but you can sleep at warmer temps, just don't go too high. I use 72 F.
You may want to lighten up on the blankets as well. If you ever find yourself sweating at night or in the morning, you are way too warm. Sleeping with your feet and hands outside the covers can cool you down fast, so try that if you are still hot. Be sure to dress in cool loose fitting clothing too. Tight or heavy PJ's can keep you up and make you too warm.
Go to bed at the same time
Having a regular sleep schedule is important, since the body knows when it needs to prepare for sleep.
Don't eat too late
You are not going to sleep well on a full stomach, so try to eat a few hours before sleeping. Also, it is a good idea not to eat/drink anything with caffeine in it, like sodas or chocolate before bed. Avoid liquids in general, including water an hour or so before bedtime so you don't need to wake up to use the bathroom. Don't eat too much sugar either, since that can keep you awake.
Don't Exercise Late
Exercising late at night, or playing sports will keep you up and make it difficult to sleep.
Keep the Room Dark
A dark room will help you sleep better. Computer screens, cell phones, or even a bright clock can interfere with sleep.
Hope these tips help you get a sound sleep!
