We all have stress in life. Some people are able to just seem very calm when it happens, while others may fall apart. Here are some tips for dealing with whatever life throws at you. It only takes a minute and can make a huge difference with practice.

When Something Stressful Hits Do the Following:

  • The first thing to always do is start relaxing. Here is a quick way to do it. Relax your hands. Your body cannot relax if your hands are tense. Once your hands feel relaxed, relax your jaw. This is the next critical stress area. Next, let your eyes feel like they are floating and gently close them. Take nice slow deep breaths. Breath out s-l-o-w. Let whatever thoughts come in your mind just do their thing. Just watch them. No judging about anything. You can spend as little or as much time on this step as needed. Even a few nice long breathes are very helpful.

  • While relaxed, relate to your problem in your heart. Don't think about it, but nurture it, like if you found a puppy that was whining. You don't know the puppy's problem and just want to bring comfort. Do the same for yourself. No questions. Just comfort and compassion without judgement. Keep up your relaxed breathing. Hands, jaw and eyes relaxed. Slow long breathes.

  • Once you feel emotionally settled and at peace, now move to your head and try to resolve things related to the actual problem. Your are now ready to handle it. Just listen to your thoughts and internal chatter. You will think about all sorts of things. You will eventually decide what is best, as you are in a relaxed calm state without letting your emotions take over. The right answer will be whatever makes you feel the most relaxed. You need to pay close attention.

Even if there is no solution, you can now just accept the problem better and move on. You don't need to solve every problem in life, since like a train, more are always just around the corner. Trying to fix everything will never work. What you can do is learn to deal with them better so you are at peace with yourself over them.

I think this would probably work better for introverts such as myself.
