Is Oh My God a Bad Word?

When I say "Oh My God" my friends get mad at me and say it's a bad word. They said that God will punish you and it's not respectful to God. I'm not religious or Christian but..is this true?

I don't think it's a bad word because there's another way of saying it.  Omg also means Oh my God and I say omg alot unless you say OMFG then it's a bad word because I use a F word. OMFG MEANS OH MY ******* GOD/Gosh AND THE F WORD IS A BAD WORD, But when you say Omg it's not a bad word and my family say it alot.

It’s not a bad word, but according to the bible, it’s using the Lord’s name in vain, so if you believe in the bible it can be.

Personally, I don’t think so, but some do.

Yes. It’s against a commandment “You shall not use the Lords name in vain.” I’m Catholic and don’t say it.

I guess it depends. Some people think that when you say it, you are using Gods name in vain, but others don’t mind. I don’t really know to be honest.

But I understand—saying it isn't swearing. It's not fair for us to not be able to say something that really isn't that bad because religious people think we shouldn't. This country was built of toleration of different opinions, and it isn't right to force beliefs on others.

It's basically swearing on someone's most precious "person" when you invoke God's name in vain, He is their Heavenly Father, nobody swear on somebody else's mother do we?

No. I’m not Christian either, but I did go to a Christian preschool/kindergarten, and they would also get mad and say the same thing. Don’t worry, it’s ok. Nothing will happen.
