I’m only fluent in English and I am not learning any languages right now. (Although I might)

Does anyone speak 2 or more languages?
by (936k points)
Also, I don’t know what language to learn. I do want to learn another one (so that I can communicate with more people) though.

I’m gonna be on the internet a lot, so a language often used on the internet is preferable.

@Wolfwilder Dia duit! How does standard Gaelic (Irish) compare to Scots Gaelic? I assume they must be pretty similar? I figure Welsh is 'pry close to them as well.

I speak English as my first language and I speak French as my second language because I have been learning it since I was 5 and I've become an expert. I'm not really fluent in Spanish but it's the 3rd language I speak. I also speak Yoruba, it's a West African Language, you might not know, it's my native language which I'm trying to learn because people abuse me for not knowing how to speak my native language. FYI, I'm a Nigerian,I belong to the Yoruba tribe.
by (936k points)
Pretty interesting! (The fact that you’re from a tribe)
by (126k points)
Most people where I live are current members of the tribe.

Elo, In Nigeria, there are many tribes and each Nigerian belongs to a tribe but the major tribes are Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba . Some people may belong to  two  tribes. For example, If my dad is Yoruba and my mom's Igbo. I belong to those two tribes.

@Lilyrella Works the same way here if you're not full-blooded (which is pretty standard nowadays). Are people of Nigerian tribes officially recognized as members or is it just like a geneaology thing?
by (2.8k points)

@DukeSilver In the olden days, people were officially recognized as members, but now it's a genealogy thing.
by (126k points)
Ah. Here it's both. It's part remembering your ancestry, but if you become a member of the tribe they can help you with food and money and stuff since all the rez's are in poverty.

Ok. This is actually the first time a topic is bringing us together, DukeSilver.
by (126k points)
One of the only times I think I've ever actually talked to you.

(and you can just call me Silver. Or Duke of Silver.)

Wow I am so jealous now. Pretty much all of KidzTalk is learning a language and I’m not. (For some reason I’m afraid my parents would oppose me being bilingual and plus, most of the online services are 13+. Also, there’s no language classes at my school)
by (126k points)
Just get a book. You don't need fancy stuff like DuoLingo or RosettaStone.
by (536k points)

Pretty sure duolingo isn't for 13+.
by (2.8k points)

@Minecraftnerd , Duolingo is for people of all ages.
by (936k points)
What if I’m not gonna use Duolingo or Rosetta Stone or a book?
by (126k points)
Then you’re forced to learn it from the Internet or physical interaction with other human beings.
by (936k points)
I don’t know any Spanish-speaking people, however I can go on a Spanish-speaking Minecraft server. I’ve tried it and I couldn’t understand a thing. (Nothing was in English)
by (2.8k points)
Maybe learn a word, pronounce it and then later translate it on a website or any how you can.
by (936k points)
I’ve got my own plan.
by (126k points)
Which is…..?
by (936k points)
Research language-learning apps, then learn coding (I already have a code.org account so no need to research that) as I am already proficient in typing. When I’m done with code.org, then I learn Spanish. Eventually, when I’m fluent in Spanish, I’ll learn whatever other language there is.
by (936k points)
Update: I’m not gonna use an app. None of them are comprehensive enough for me to gain a true understanding of Spanish.

Instead, I’m gonna do this (since I don’t know any native Spanish speakers):

1. Listen to videos of people speaking Spanish (preferably with English captions).

2. Take a phrase from the video and try to mimic it. I keep doing it until I did it.

3. Apply the phrase in conversations.

That’s part 1 of my own study plan.

I speak Irish. I mean, I'm not "fluent" per say but I'm pretty decent I think. Might consider Spanish for this year since I can get 100% in both Spanish A and B.
