Maybe consider the Shadowmagic trilogy by John Lenahan. Fantasy, but they talk a lot about relatives and stuff. Long story short, this kid gets sucked into the mystical land of Tir Na Nog where everbody speaks ancient Gaelic (the kid's dad knows like 200 languages and is a language professor). Dragons, elves, Brownies, leps, telepathic trees, etc. Full of great humor. Even if you just read the first book it should just take you a jiffy. I recently got Lenahan's latest book that's signed with a custom message including my name. Great books even though I don't normally read fantasy. Probably about High School level, but I read them no problem when I was like 10 or 11 or something. I can recommend a lot; just suggesting this because it's a quick, easy, very enjoyable read and it's a lot to do with ancient Celts and their tongue and runes and stuff.
