Kat gazed at the sky. It had been 2 years now since her mother died. She thought she would be over it by now. Her eyes teared up for what seemed to be the thousandth time. Kat remembered, as she stared at the clouds drifting by, how she and her mother would always pick the lemons off of the tree out back to make lemon curd for the breads they made in the kitchen. Kat's father, she thought, had been unaffected by her mother's death. That was until she saw him sobbing in his room late at night. She had left then, unable to think of what to say. What she would give now to talk to her father. He had grown distant. The many times she spent with her father and mother were seared into her mind. No matter how this whole thing turned out, she had no idea what she would do. But Kat knew one thing; she could always be with her mother here, under the lemon tree.
