Tajweed is really important because the Quran was revealed with the Tajweed rules applied to it. In other words, when the angel Jibraeel recited the words of Allah to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he recited them in a certain way and he showed to the Prophet (peace be upon him, the ways which it was permissible to recite the Quran. So it's obligatory for us to learn Tajweed so that we recite it the way it was revealed.
