if our conscience come from the brain explain this

According to the book the science of self it said a scientist did a experiment with some mice . What he did was he put mice in a maze and wanted them to remember how to get out of the maze. Finnaly they did so after that he cut there brain off then he put them back to the maze and they still remember how to get out of the maze

I'm sure they left some part of the brain that controls things like movement, or they would not have been able to walk. It just says the rats store memory at a very low level of the brain, but I don't see it proving or disproving the conscience mind. Even feeding rats the brains of other rats that memorized a maze allows them to learn it before even seeing it. There is a lot we don't understand.
