Okay, all in truth here. Cats have claws for natural survival. If you try to keep one as a pet, and you don't want to de-claw it, it could cause a lot of damage to your house. Cats shed SO much, and they wake you up and meow for hours at like 2:00 am. (This is mostly what my dad tells me. We used to have cats, but they both died.)
Dogs are really social, and a lot of them love people. They can play with you, and most are good travelers. Cats do not like change, and they try to make you mad about it. Once my old cat peed because he was mad. My mom said that cat pee has a very distinct oder...gross! Dogs are OK usually with change. We moved from two different states, and my dog was fine. Some dogs can be protective. My dog is; she protects her toys, which is why we can't give her any anymore. She hides them away from us and growls sometimes if we come near her.
So both are fine. Each have their own upsides and downsides. I hope this helps answer your question in SOME way
