When you're drawing a dragon, or, really anything, ALWAYS DO A SKETCH. I used to not do one when I was younger and that always poked me in the eye later. A sketch allows you to plan and make changes to your drawing.
It'll pay off, I promise.
Also, have good lighting. It's important to see all of your lines clearly.
Draw on a smooth, flat surface.
Always have an eraser on hand.
I honestly don't like to color my paper drawings, just because I don't have many good pencils/markers. You can always just leave it black and white, and/or shade it if you'd like!
When drawing dragons, it's good to have a Wings of Fire book handy, just so you can study the anatomy and such when drawing them.
If you prefer drawing humans but can't draw them realistically, look for a comic book called Zita the Spacegirl at your library. It has REALLY great human illustrations that you can reference that don't have an anime-type style. Well, that, and you should read the book it's great lol
If drawing fur, try to make many small, light strokes, until a clump of fur-like crosshatches form. Then, fill in the rest of the rest of the body with the same pattern! Be sure to make the fur go in the same directions as the limbs, though. (Example, on legs the fur goes downwards. On the face, it goes diagonal.)
