I believe in the philosophy that if you want to get better at writing, write. I have journal/diary which I write in daily. I also come up with writing prompts which I put in a jar and pull out every now and then just to keep my creative senses fresh. I like to work on a chapter or two for each story I am currently writing, every day. To get inspiration for my stories, I take a shower. All my best ideas come when I'm in the shower :P I don't really have to maintain my schedule, I just do it
