PROMPT 1: NOVEMBER 1ST
I was sitting in class, waiting for the teacher. We were having a huge test today, I was pretty nervous. The door knob turns. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw who it was.
"Daddy!" I shrieked, not even caring that I was 12 and still called my dad "Daddy", not even caring that all my friends heard, not even caring that I was screaming in class. My daddy was back from Afghanistan, and that was all that mattered. But wait... I looked the man up and down... The same brown hair, green eyes, and medals in his uniform... But anybody could have those features. But when he looked down at me with that loving smile and said "Hey, kiddo.", I just knew he was the one. I hadn't seen my Daddy in person since wI as six years old. Sure, I'd Skyped, and played online chess, and there was an occasional phone call. But what could I say other than "Hi.", "I'm great.", and "I love you." in five minutes? My grandpa died in 9/11. My daddy swore he would kill Papa Henry's killer. And when he decided he was ready, he did. Oh, he did. He was part of the team that killed Osama Bin Laden, he explained to the class, and Ms. Rogers, who had entered the room.
"And couldn't have done it without you, Sadie." He said proudly, tousling my French braid, which had taken 30 minutes to do right. But did I care? No chance. I didn't say anything, but must have looked confused.
"Sadie, you're the reason I woke up every morning! You're the reason I ducked when I felt it in my gut. Without you, I wouldn't be standing here today!". And I smiled. A complete, full braces smile. Perhaps my first real one since my daddy left. Because I knew, no matter how far away he was, my daddy was always taking care of me.
