Alright, y'all, I'll be defining several common chess varients (so not chess itself), and I'll leave y'all to choose your favorites.

Have fun!

Shogi- a Japanese version of chess played on a 9x9 board with differing rules.

Xiangqi- commonly referred to as Chinese chess, the pieces are played on the intersections of the tiles, functions wildly different from traditional chess.

Sittuyin- this one's very interesting. So, it starts out with a few pawns, but you actually add on to it before you start so you can play with any configuration.

Janggi- looks and plays very similarly to Chinese chess but has a few differences (Korean).

Chaturanga- Indian, but plays very similarly to traditional chess.

I know that there are a lot more varients, and I might update this, but these are all the ones I've learned so far.

Xiangqi (0 votes)
Sittuyin (0 votes)
Janggi (0 votes)
Chaturanga (0 votes)
Other (please tell me!) (0 votes)

I know there’s a variant where the starting layout of the different chess pieces are random. I forgot what it’s called though.

I believe that's called chess960, it shuffles the first row of pieces on the chessboard into one of the 960 possible arrangements.
