Hello Everyone, this is Carly. Today I'm gonna teach you my art progress, as well as follow me as I draw an Anime Sámi Girl

Step 1 : Refs

The 1st thing that should always be done is to decide what you want to draw.

I decided to draw a Sámi Girl because it is winter, and a very important time for Sámi people. I looked for references.

Usually, I use Pinterest for references (not saying my acc since it is private) but for those who aren't allowed to use pinterest, use Google.

Here are my references

  (for the dress)

For the style, only focusing on the Girl.

For the background.

I reccomend 3 references. 1 of a real-life person or object, 2nd one of a desired style and 3rd one of a background if there is any

Also, it is good to have an appropriate music for your drawing. Because I was drawing a Sámi Girl, I wanted to listen to some Sámi Music. I reccomend one playlist and 1 album of an artist you like who's songs fit your drawing.

STEP 2 : SKETCHING

In the 2nd step, we sketch out. I recommend using an editing app to show the 2 main photos, the subject and style refs.

For Sketching, I do not recommend using any kind of liquid media (Paint, Some Markers etc). I mostly use either a pencil or a Blue Colored pencil.

I also recommend using gel pens for sketching if you want to skip step 3.

Step 3 : Inking

The next step is Inking. Despite the name, Inking can be done with any kind of semi-wet media. Markers, Gel Pen, Inks and Paint Markers can all be used for Inking. I use Sharpies. When it comes to Inking, you can use any color. However, I mostly recommend Purple, Black or Dark Red for Ink colors.

Also, This can also be a chance to already color parts that are meant to be black. After you're done Inking, erase the pencil.

STEP 4 : coloring

Now, I took a 2-hour break since My friend Nihara came over. You can use whatever medium for coloring, whether it is dry or wet. I use Markers for the coloring. For skintones, I use Crayola colors of the world colored pencils, since Crayola did a really good job with Skintones

Step 5 : shading

This is perhaps the easiest step, as all you need to do is draw over the lines with a darker color. For the Hat, I noticed I used my darkest shade of red, so I couldn't shade it

Now, because I'm qt my aunt's house I do not have my watercolors, which is what I use to do the backgrounds. I may post the drawing with watercolors tomorrow, so enjoy this drawing :
