I'm not much of an artist, but I do like drawing and painting and things like that. I've noticed that the more I practice and the longer I take on a drawing, the better I get. I think an easy way to get started is to watch some YouTube videos for kids about drawing. When the time comes to put pencil to paper, I've been given the advice to try not to draw the thing you're seeing (for example- a butterfly), but instead the elements making it up. This means, instead of trying to draw the butterfly's wing, you would think in your head 'I'm drawing this line that's this shape.' It's usually best to have some sort of reference to draw from, and don't get discouraged!
