Ballet

Question

So, I’m a ballet dancer. I’m en pointe, and have been in several productions (4 to be exact). It seems like I’m the only one on here who does ballet (if I’m wrong please comment), so here are some myths about pointe:

1. It’s easy.          NOPE!!!!! You have to be super strong in order to pass the test, and even when you’re breaking in the pointe shoes it hurts.

2. Pointe shoes have a block of wood in the toe.           Again, no. People argue, ‘Then how do you balance?’ It’s called using your core. It’s the same as balancing on one foot on your tiptoes, just harder because you are literally ON YOUR TOES.

3. Men can’t dance en pointe.                This isn’t true. There are many men who dance en pointe, you just don’t see them in productions. My dance teacher (a male) has danced en pointe before.

I did ballet for a while but then we moved and my parents wanted us to start tea kwon doe. it's really boring minus the breaking boards part. I do wish I were still in ballet

I totally agree with you. pointe work is really hard, but it's a lot less painful and it's easier when your shoes are broken in.

I used to be ballet dancer before my mom made me quit because it was too much effort and "pain" haha.

True, there is a lot of pain! But it’s mostly only when you’re breaking into pointe shoes. Before they’re broken in, they’re really hard, but with you sweating inside them, they start to break in a bit and they feel better.
