Welcome to my new art tutorial series! Request tips on how I draw something and i will help out with a tutorial!! :D Since I check in twice a week (I’ll come sooner if there’s a post wanting me to reply lol) I’ll try to make one each time if you’d like. So! Let’s get started, shall we :3
HOW TO PAINT LIPS
Step One: Base color
First pick your color. For fairer skin use pale pinks, and for deeper skin do darker pinks, for a natural nude look. Here, I did Lindalén, and used her trademark light blush pink. I used the wet watercolor brush (I’m using IBISPaint). I clip a layer above the skin, spread it on, and reduce the opacity. Anywhere between 50-80% works. To paint lips, make sure you use curves like shown, the bottom lip sags down and the top one goes slightly up. You can also add the bow in the lips if you want.
Step Two: A bit of shadow
Then clip a layer above on multiply. Use the same color as you used above and shade on the bottom lip slightly. Then shade the top lip on the same layer. Merge that layer into the lip one.
Step Three: Skin shadow
Next go to the skin layer and clip a multiply layer. Pick a darker skin tone and reduce opacity as you like, but make sure you sweep your shadow under the bottom lip. Now, because the opacity of the lips is low, your shadow will show through and make the lips more realistic. Feel free to use blur tool of you have it. Then merge.
Step Four: Shadow adjust
Now add a bit more shadow on the lips. Use colors such as pale red, purple, or other pale nude colors to add a bit of life. Use airbrush in between the lips at multiply if you want, by only a tiny bit. I did not use it here.
Step Five: Gloss
Now clip a layer above the lips, set the layer to add, and use a color such as white or pale pink. Make little dots and blur it slightly. You’re done!!!
EXTRA: What if I don’t have layers or other tools? What if I’m using a basic art app?
Yes, I am aware that not all have an app like IBIS or MediBang Paint, or Krita (AHHH KRITA-). So, I’m going to do a little thing here with one layer, and just using a dip pen. Do your base skin, add your shadow, and then add white. Adjust what you actually have to do this. IBISPaintX is free on Apple and Android I believe, so please try it for t phis tutorial. :’)
