I've told the users here the lie I had and why I lied about it, and the reasoning was the same as yours. Trust me, you don't need to lie to get liked here. If you say what you lied about, people will understand why, and it's better to have it in the past and get rid of the guilt anyway. I do recommend saying what you lied about, people here will still accept you.
