Why does everyone my age hate their parents?

I  am being raised by a single mom and I love her so much we cuddle together and have deep conversations and and I tell her everything. I never really thought this was weird until a month ago when one person in my friend group said “Would you rather friends or your parents” and almost everyone said friends and my friends always complain to me about their parents and I have not her to say. I love my mom so much she is my favorite person in the world but I’m wondering why does everyone else hate their parents?

Everyone has their reasons.

True, some kids jump on the "I hate my parents" bandwagon because they think its cool or funny, but others have genuine reasons.

For me at least, I am on decent terms with my dad. He refuses to accept that I am gay and that I'm not a female, but other than that he's a great dad and all I have.

My mom, however, mentally and emotionally abuses me, punishes me for arguments she starts, gets angry easily and blames it on me, and treats my emotions like a joke. She was with my dad for 20-ish years and said she loved him the whole time and that she would rather jump off a cliff than leave him, then when my dad gets really sick, she gets up and says she's leaving him. She told me, a ten year old who was having a mental breakdown, that I should just get over the divorce. She also said that my real mother didn't care about me and that's why she gave me to her.

Again, some people have valid reasons, such as abuse. Others just jump on the wagon of kids who think it's funny, cool, or unique, when in reality they have the sweetest and most supportive parents. Sorry for all the exposure, it wasn't really necessary.

I understand why hate them for abuse, but if your mom wouldnt let you use tiktok or wear makeup at 8 years old then theres no reason to hate her

Most of the time, it’s because their parents don’t let them do what they want (like drinking Starbucks), which is trivial in my opinion.

Sometimes though, it’s because of abuse, which is definitely a big problem.

I agree with you on both points like there would definitely be a reason kids could hate their parents (like abuse which is obviously a big deal) but most people my age dislike their parents for something more like the starbucks thing. So I just don’t understand why they would them over that
