i hate my real name

So uhh

I hate my real name.

The reason why I hate it is because it is nothing like my personality.

My name is dull, it is too elegant and very weird.

I like Carly. Because Carly is more artsy, more carefree and more... Me

My mom yelled at me this morning all because I told her to call me Carly.

Also, My cousins hate me for wanting to change my name

they thing that I'm losing connection to my Venezuelan heritage because I want to change my name

they say that even thought they forgot all their  Spanish. (They lived here 2 years longer than me, so they've been here for 8 years now)

I think it’s 100% ok if you want to change your name.

A name doesn’t define your personality, but if you think your name doesn’t really fit, that’s fine if you want to change it.

And you will lose no connection to your Venezuelan heritage no matter what your name is.

It doesn’t matter if an American is named Billy Bob Charleston Johnnystan or Hans Xiao Oskar Petrenko, you will lose 0 connection to your American heritage.

So, I can understand this, bc I would LOVE to change my own name to smth else. (My autocorrect tried to correct smth to Smith lol) anyways, just saying that I get that. If u were to Chang ur name tho, u would have to go through a lot of red tape with the government.

I have a non binary friend (only see them at camp now) they changed their  name from a feminine name to a gender neutral name. It took some time for me to get used to calling them their non binary name instead of their birthname. I'm just saying it may just take them some time to get used to you not wanting to be called ur real name. I'm not sharing anything else about the friend for privacy reasons.

​​​​​​to be fair, she did give you your name, but its okay to not like your name, I didn't like my name at first but I warmed up to it, What you need to do (you don't have to) is tell your mom you don't like your name she'll (probably) give you some advice.
