Because the stars are so far away, they seem a lot dimmer than they are, since they are a lot farther away. Hope this helps, - Anonymous

I suppose it is because those stars are SOOOOOO far away that their light isn't close enough to really make a difference in the dark sky compared to the sun. Does that make any sense?
