Why do we dive on parkways and park on driveways?

It makes no sense!!!! People need to make things make more sense. Like, come on! We park on a driveway and we drive on a parkway. Tell me what you think. Why would English be so difficult like this?

Wait, wait, wait, what. I thought we drove on a driveway and we parked at a parkway, it’s either that or I don’t pay attention in English wondering . But  in retrospect, I don’t even know what a parkway is lol. English really is difficult
