So, Daughters of Norway.
we have to talk.
I made a post a month ago saying that I am planning to become a member of it when I turn 15, which is the minimun age to join. For those who don't know, Daughters of Norway is a foundation that is made so girls can learn about Norwegian culture from many activities.
Some of them include language lessons, Starting a Nordic folk band, cooking traditional Norwegian food, Folk Dancing and The Emigrant Expirience (which is a Simulatiion Event that happens every 2 years and requires out of state traveling) which is basically living thorught a SAIN.
Now, They changed the rules on who can join. At first, anyone regardless of ethnicity could join. This makes me happy, since I am Venezuelan and Spanish, but now only people of partial or full Scandinavian Ancestry can join, and they have to bring Genealogical records. (This also includes Scandinavian-Americans)
Now, recently it has been revealed that one of my aunts has a small amount of Nordic ancestry (between 5% and 24%) They didn't specify what is the minimun, but it still makes me really mad. And about the record thing, Genealogy is not something cheap. Most genealogists spend A LOT of money on their resources (Database Subscriptions, DNA testing, Having to travel to their ancestral countries just for records) And most spent up to 5,000$ on these items.
Now, About Sons of Norway (which is the parent company) They still allow Non-Scandinavians, as long as they like Scandinavian culture. Now, despite the name, People of other genders can join Sons of Norway. So I have a plan B :)
Anyways, what do you think of what daughters of Norway did? I find this really upsetting. Hopefully the Manager of Sons of Norway finds out about this because Daughters of Norway just lost a loyal future member
