Normally there's a number after the equals sign, but since there isn't, you add 2x+5. But you can't add them because they're not like terms. So (and yes I'm serious),

2x+5=2x+5. You can't simplify anymore.

Well, whatever number X is, you multiply that number by 2 and add 5 to it.

For example: x = 2

Problem: 2x + 5 = ?

Step 1: Assuming x is 2, we first multiply 2 by 2 to get 4.

Step 2: The problem is now 4 + 5. That equals 9.
