Alright, I’m not a politics guy, but here’s my stance (I’m not going Grizzly Lawyer mode fyi).
Yes, Thomas Jefferson did own slaves. And he is very wrong for that. But he redeems himself in the fact that he wrote some very important political documents that helped shape our nation into the superpower it is today.
Think about it.
Without the documents Jefferson wrote, slave owners would have even MORE pathetic excuses for owning slaves, creating even MORE turmoil, making European nations even MORE sympathetic to the south, making it EXTREMELY likely of MILITARY INTERFERENCE on the south’s side, possibly extending the slavery period even FURTHER.
I think that if Jefferson REALLY deserves to have his statue taken down, they should’ve taken it down right after the Civil War ended.
I hate the idea of slavery.
I have multiple friends that are black, and they are very good people (mostly, if not very good then just good).
And I also hate the people who owned slaves.
Yes, Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, but his work helped America in abolishing slavery.
I’m not trying to start an argument, I’m simply trying to end it.
Goobay, frens!
