I just felt like writing something. I hope you enjoy. You don't have to, though. You probably won't read.
Not based on true events. Purely fictional.
You knock on their ice-cold door in the middle of a storm. Not even the strongest winds can keep you away from them.
They answer the door with a sullen look on their pale, skinny face. The circles around their eyes dull their once vibrant pupil. You can tell that they haven't slept in days, maybe even weeks. Your words seem so quiet when you ask, "Can we talk?"
They nod silently, walking away from the door with a lowered head.
You come in and immediately notice the chaotic arrangement of things. Trash overflowing the can to the point where it has its own corner, variously colored stains splattered on the couches and walls—though nothing of blood—and pills on a small table are spilling out of their tipped-over bottle.
"Oh my god..." you say as you start to realize the full extent of their desperation. They turn very slowly and look at you, their lips quivering and eyes filling with tears. "I'm sorry," they shakily whisper. The tears begin to rush down their face, matching with the speed at which you run over to them, forcefully taking them in your arms. You hold them close as they sob, and you regret the fact that they have had no one to hold onto all this time. They've had no one to really give them this hug. Not for a long time.
It's a bit before you guys pull away from each other. You only pull them away to look at their face, and its flushed with red as snot trickles down their nose. You don't even realize that you're crying, too.
"Why didn't you let me help you?" you sob.
"I didn't want to waste your time," they reply. "You're always busy... Everyone is. I tried to smile all of this away, but..."
"You never waste my time! I would give up anything and everything for you! You are my world!"
...
They lean their head on your shoulder. "I just... Wanted people to show that they really care. That they really want to help me change my life. That they really would do anything to make me happy like they always promise."
You hug them tighter. "I'm so sorry," you whisper as your tears drip onto their hair. "I should have made sure that you were okay..."
You two stay just like that for what feels like eternity. The flashing lightning and the freezing rain could never pull you apart from the one person you love most in this world. It pains you to think that if you had not been here for any more time...
You would lose the opportunity to make sure they know you love them. That you would make sure that they always have a smile on their face. A genuine one. That nothing in the world matters as long as you have the ability to hug them and make them happy. You would change the ways of the wind to keep them warm.
After a while, you begin to speak. "I promise... I promise that I'll change everything for you. I'll change my ways, I change my job to spend my time with you... I just want you to be happy... That's all I'll ever want... That's all I'll ever need... Just please don't wither away because I'm... Stupid. Just so, so stupid..."
"You aren't stupid," they reply, sniffing. "...You didn't know."
You pull them away just slightly.
"Everything that you've gone through... You're taken for granted... You should never be taken for granted. You are an extraordinary person, and if I lost you, I..."
They hug you again. You remember to just live in this moment. This moment, the healing has begun. They matter more than the past right now.
