Spanish is weird

Question

I am learning spanish for school and the word for black is really really close to a really bad word, so I just try to avoid saying it as much as possible, but it is a live class so I cant completely avoid it.

Yeah, I know that, my brother used to take Spanish class last year, but now he takes Korean, since Spanish was weird and super hard and boring, and also because our family is Korean, and since taking a language for 4 years is good for your grade or something.

Actually it is. Slave owners use to call their slaves negro with a e at the end, and it meant the same thing as the n word, so yeah, it is close to a bad word.

I was learning Spanish, but now I've taken up Irish. Negro is black in Spanish, we know. But have you not read books like To Kill A Mockingbird or whatever else? Plenty of teachers force their students say the word out loud multiple times to get them used to it and to show that it isn't bad in all occasions. Brothers call each other that all the time. But to me, "Negro" is only a curse word when used in context of racism, or when used as a hurtful way of referring to someone. But that's in English. In Spanish, it means black. So what's it matter then? Sure, the word no doubt derives from the slaves being sold on central America and the Central-American islands, but I don't think that you should have that be a reason to completely try to not take the class.
