That sounds like a good thing. I hope it is.
There's nothing wrong with being shy, but you do have to be able to overcome that trait when necessary, so it's good to get support in developing that skill. The term you're looking for will be something like getting "mentoring" or "counseling" or "life-coaching." Everyone needs it. Not everyone actually gets it.
The idea that only people who "have problems" need counseling is incorrect. Everyone is better off with good advice from someone older and wiser who is willing to tell the truth, even when you don't want to hear it. Also, news flash: everyone "has problems." haha.
