sO Mortised in Granite didn't have enough FanWings on this platform to actually go anywhere, but I managed to dig up a old writing prompt that was collecting dust under my bed haha. Wanted to post this because of the ABSOLUTE EXPLOSION of stories on KT recently.

Just a random disclaimer so the mods won't be concerned- all of the counties mentioned are a product of fancy and are not actual counties.

Chapter One

Monday morning. 6:26 A.M.

I was intensely studying the back of my eyelids.

When suddenly, my clock radio came on.

I groaned sleepily. "Oh.. snooze- snooze button-"

The radio sputtered on. "..reporting accumulation of up to fifteen inches," said the man with the crackling voice.

"Huh?"

"And because of all the snow, the police department recommends you stay at home today unless in the case of an emergency, and now for the latest on school closings- the following school systems are closed today:

"Please, oh, please!" I could just picture kids all over the town falling on their knees in prayer. "Cadberry County!"

"Anderson County, Baldwin County,

"Cadberry County! Cadberry, Cadberry!" I rooted.

"Cad- burr County, Cadberry County-

And with those two words the radio announcer made my day. "Yes! Oh, yeah! Snow day!"

You know, there's nothing quite like the feeling of a Snow Day. It's like an- unexpected holiday. I got dressed as fast as I could and opened up the blinds on my window. Wow! Everything, everywhere was covered in white. Our front yard was pure snow, like a blanket of cotton candy. Except it wasn't sticky. And it wasn't pink. Anyway, it was like a whole new world out there just calling to me.

"Hey, Esie! Come on outside!" Nope, that was my friend. Not the world. Just so you know.

"Hi, Matthew! Be right there!" I called back.

But as I was planning my escape out the front door, Mom confronted me. "Hey, Esie, I need you to run an errand for me."

Little did I know that the next words out of her mouth would send me on an unforgettable journey that would test my courage, my strength, and my skill to survive. "I need you to deliver these cookies to your grandma."

Operation: Cookie Delivery. It sounded simple enough. But little did I know what terror lay ahead for me and one dozen cookies.

"It's her favorite. Chocolate chip with macadamia nuts," she continued. "And I'd like her to get these while they're still warm, all right?"

You have to understand, my mom's cookies are world famous. Well, at least they are in my town. We're talking cookies that are the stuff of legend. The most delicious, chewy chocolate chip cookies you've ever put in your mouth.

I was now on my way, carrying Mom's famous golden cookie tin, wrapped tightly in a paper bag (for security reasons). But once I rounded the corner of my house, I came face to face with something hideous, something gruesome, something- unknown...
