Hej Everyone, It's Carly. This is my 1st Nordic rant ever posted on Kidztalk, so I revised tt :3

So I was listening to some Norwegian folk song on Youtube and somebody in the comments said that they really like their song as a Norwegian-American and that they are proud of their heritage and ancestry. At first glance, it is a sweet and wholesome comment. But the replies where horrible.

There was a Norwegian (Norwegian meaning born in Norway) who was attacking the commentor because "they are not Norwegian, they just watched 1 episode of Vikings." the Commentor replied with "I am a Norwegian-American." and the attacker replied with "Norwegian-Americans aren't real Norwegians."

Im Not Norwegian (or any Scandinavian) and I spent Hours  listening to Nordic music, Watching Nordic documeantries and studying Nordic history. and I am still Venezuelan (I am not gonna talk about the people who do act like they are Scandinavia cuz they watched 1 episode of the Vikings TV show because these people sometimes do uhh.. questionable activities. I made a post on Viking enthusiasts) so uhh yeah.

1st of all, Scandinavia wasn't always "yay happy landscapes nice people super safe."  In Fact, Scandinavia hasn't purely improved into the life quality and positive attributes it's currently in until the 1960s. you should have seen 1800s Scandinavia. Everything was wrong. There was Conflict, Poverty, Constant outbreaks of illness. Most Scandinavians at that time had to have a decent job in the urban areas or Emigrate to survive.

About 2,760,000 Scandinavians Emigrated in those years. Breaking news. Just because those 2 million Scandinavians and their descendants lived in a diferent country dosen't mean they aren't Scandinavian. Either the attacker's ancestors were some of the guys who were able to keep themselves in Scandinavia, or he hasn't learnt about this topic.

2nd all, The terminology. according to Wikipedia, a Scandinavian-American is either somebody born in Scandinavia and lives in the US or a person born in the US of Nordic ancestry. Now the original comment didnt have context on wheter this person is who but still. Scandinavian-Americans are Scandinavian (most Scandinavian-American associations consider a person to be a Scandinavian-American if they have at least one quarter Scandinavian ancestry.) they cant change that, and they will never change that. They are born in it.

Lastly, Another person replied to defend the person attacking the Norwegian-American and said that “his mom probably ate Norwegian food once.” now, Not all Scandinavians and Scandinavian-Americans like eating their food, and there are people of other cultures who do. Still, that dosent change that persons Ancestry. Again, Just because I do not like my Country’s music (basically there isnt such thing as just Venezuelan music, it is grouped into Latin) dosent mean that I am not Venezuelan. These people need to actually talk to other people.

Hope you enjoy my endless ranting
