Chapter 1-
"We live in harmony. We live in safety," they said. Every day, everyone in the whole entire world would say that. Today, I decided I wouldn't. I simply didn't even try to mouth the words. "We live in harmony." My sister, Nida violently kicked my leg. I ignored her reminder to say it. "We live in peace." I smiled as I had been rebellious. They say if you don't say it, you deemed an Aquaceffor, or in other words an outlaw. I didn't really care if a bunch of old men would scold me for it.
I live in the city of Aqua, the section, made for the poor. My family's suffering was partly my fault, being born and all. The very moment I was born, a law was passed limiting the number of children to each household. My mother had given birth to Nida and Angus legally. My family was middle-class. We weren't rich or poor, then suddenly our house was taken and our father was brutally shot while at a protest for the third children. My mother tried to stop him from going- there had been 5 killings before our broadcaster was taken away. I was about seven at the time. I don't remember how it happened. Our neighbor, Wana came to our door holding her son. She claimed she was leaving and wouldn't be seen again, and we should take her child. My mother was shocked by how rude Wana was, after all, she had just found out that her spouse had died. She struck Wana in the face, causing Wana to scream, which made the baby scream, which scared Angus, playing with a rock from outside to launch it in the air, which hit Wana, who passed out. Of course, a white suit came. Suddenly the world froze. My mother had a strange black object in her hand, Nida was trying to grab me, Angus was crying. I couldn't breathe. Suddenly, it was dark. I could barely remember my family's small 2 bedroom house with pastel yellow wallpaper and orange fading curtains. Taken. I would say it was.
Nida and I walked back to our house in silence. Suddenly, I couldn't hold it in anymore. "What happened to Angus?" I whispered. Nida frowned, then looked surprised and then began scolding me. "The horse? Funny show!" she said. I knew what that meant. It meant I should be quiet before a camera or microphone caught on. We walked in the house. Nida automatically walked to the board and recorded. 8:20AM Monday. Nida (Adult) and Gani (Child) went to Center for announcements. Returned to house (Y3) at 10:50AM. There was a loud beep, which meant it had been recorded. The board was created to make sure no one got lost. According to Nida, the White Suits already knew where we were, they just wanted to make sure we were being truthful. She never allowed me to record, I was not trusted after I skipped school.
The white Suits completely buried Wana and my Mothers' death. It almost never happened. Anyone who could recall anything- a scream- an echo- a shout was either killed or arrested. Nida had helped cover it up, and I was fairly upset. Nida was angry at the White Suits, and suddenly she had begun "sneaking" around with one. The white suit was fairly tall and had bright orange hair. Rich. Only the wealthy people, in the upper sections, had access to hair dyes- access isn't the word- afford. The hair dyes were very expensive. It took almost months to get your hair color approved- the White Suits had to make sure you weren't trying to impersonate anyone or change your identity. The White Suits would simply look over your info. If you got 5 strikes or more you could not use them. The White Suit was fairly nice, according to Nida, she had helped cover the case completely. Soon, Nida allowed me to meet her. Her name was Quin. She was odd. However, I guess she's alright.
