Chapter 11

The halls swarmed with children that were once removed from their surroundings. Nicolas found himself passing kids who seemed to multiply with every step, strolling into the class in which he was leaving. He barely managed to get into a safe and slightly vacant space outside of the classroom, now searching for the next one in return.

Azure was still trying to get his attention about her troubled brother, whom he had no true interest in at the moment. It was quite problematic the way she continuously expressed her worries about him; if Nicolas thought it was prudent to do that, he would have asked her for details on the specific color of his eyes and if it meant that he was ill or abnormally healthy.

"I just don't get it," she would say, pausing in between times where they had to cut corners. "My brother would never get himself into that much trouble. He isn't the brightest, but he certainly doesn't knowingly disobey authority.. Does he?"

"I wouldn't know," replied Nicolas sarcastically as he thought about what his math teacher was going to be like. The math teacher he had prior to the camp (and predating private school) was nice; she was accepting, eager to teach and even learn something along with the students. Amazingly intelligent, but never one to tell it. That was one of the few things he missed about public school, as he didn't get to experience much of that, either.

He glanced over at Azure whom he noticed fell silent. "Azure?" He asked, slightly bending to see her face. "You obviously don't care to understand the gravity of this situation," she replied angrily, then speeding up her pace and moving very far ahead of him. He looked after her, unphased to her coldness. He saw her turn into a class that must have had an open door, sprinting to catch up with her.

He stopped at the same spot, peaking in the room. It wasn't that much different; the teacher was this time an unpleasant women with way too many frown lines on her face. "One minute late," she told him sharply, pointing the teaching stick she was holding to a seat that was, once again, next to a window with a glorious view.

He fought back the urge to smile, feeling the teacher's glare burn the side of his head like a beam of ultraviolet. He quickly went over and took a seat, turning his head to the person next to him.

What were the odds that it must be the troublemaker, grinning at him with mischief in his eye. Nicolas wondered who he had pranked now. He'd already made up in his head that the kid was no good.

A row and three seats to the left of him was his twin sister whom his eyes naturally averted its gaze from. Being startled by the loud sound of a clearing throat, he looked towards that direction. It was the teacher, who was still giving the death stare at the entire class. "The Pythagorean Theorem," she began, pacing in front of the board, "is a rule used in Mathematics, created by the Greek mathematician Pythagoras. It stated that, for all right triangles, the sum of the legs of a triangle squared equaled the amount of the hypotenuse squared. Greatly used in Trigonometry, this proves useful for measuring right triangles using the measurements you are already given: that of two or maybe even one of the legs of a right triangle."

Nicolas managed to absorb all of that information fast, surprisingly. "This is a very simple concept that intelligent students will be able to grasp incredibly easily," she continued,  "with that being said, unintelligent students will feel intense anger towards this class and have a very hard time dealing with me."

Nicolas went relaxed in his chair, knowing that this would be an easy trial.
