The Emigrants explained by a 14-year old girl who likes nordic history
BOOK 1. PART 1.
Once upon a time, in 19th century Sweden, there was a guy named Karl-Oskar Nilsson. He was 19 years old, and he lived a normal life
This Karl Guy lives with his dad, who was trying to suffer from a serious leg injury. While Karl was farming, he met this girl named Kristina. And she was from Duvemåla.
Kristina was just chilling, she was on the swings and just being relaxed and chill. But then she noticed Karl
AND SHE LIKED HIM A LOT-
Fast forward to 6 years later, Karl was 25 and Kristina was 23. They were married and lived together in Korpamoen, Karl’s hometown in Småland with their 4 kids. Anna (4, passed away) , Johan (3) , Märta (3) and Harald (2 months) and Kristina’s family.
Oh yeah, and about Karl’s dad in the beginning he died.
They weren’t doing ok tho. Sweden back then was bad, and they couldn’t do anything. The Nilssons were poor, had very little food and they dealt with a lot of issues.
Well, Karl’s older brother, Robert was different to him. While Karl spent a lot of time with working on his farm, Robert was laid-back and loved to read and hang out with his friend Arvild.
Arvild looks, and acts menacing. He fights a lot, but this isn’t the real Arvild.
Arvild is actually shy, and he deals with a lot of pressure.
now, Robert and Arvild where chilling, reading a book about Nature when they found out that America has good crops. Robert decided to run to Karl and show the book.
Robert and Karl had a history of beef together, like most brothers but one day. Robert went up to Karl and did this
“hey bro. Want to Emigrate?”
Well, That didn’t happen. That’s not how you properly ask someone if they will Emigrate. You get the point
Karl was obviously agreeing to his brother. He didn’t have a lot of money, the weather was terrible, his children were starving and Sweden is doing badly.
Kristina, she was like “nope.”
However, one night, their oldest daughter, Anna Nilsson dies of food poisoning at only 4 years old. So Kristina was like “I agree now.”
Then the crew got more members. There was Danijel, who had to leave for legal reasons , Finna-Kajsa who was a 65-year old woman who for some reason looks 25 and needed to cope with her husband’s death, and Elin who is a random teen girl.
And Ulrika
We don’t talk about her
We don’t need to know her
In case little jimmy using his greasy Ipad with a skibidi toilet wallpaper comments this post with “But Carly when will they Emigrate, THE BOOK IS CALLED THE EMIGRANTS YOURE A SCAMMER”
wait for part 2.
also Jimmy, You’re like 6. Why are you reading The Emigrants
Book 1 - Part 2.
The whole squad, along with like more Swedes and some Norwegians, go on a wooden ship. The ship’s name sound a lot like my real name, so you are not getting the name.
Is this a secret coincidence of the Carly lore-
The ship was led by this guy called Captain Lorentz, who is unironically an underrated character. He does have beef with everyone tho so I don’t approve that Mr Lorentz.
The ship was CRUSTY MUSTY and unsanitary, some people even died and stuff.
Dear Vilhelm Moberg, WHY ARE YOU OBSSESED WITH DEATH.
Kristina almost died but she survived later on, and this was happening for 2 WHOLE MONTHS.
I love chaos
and also during a storm some random kid fell down and broke part of the ship
“Oh no, The Ship is broken”
- Lars Andersen (7) (The kid was unnamed, he was just called Kid 64#)
(Kinda like that Broken table meme)
Oh yeah and Finna-Kajsa made an absolute banger song and also she likes throwing sand at people.
gurl is trying not to lose her sanity.
and somehow the Nilsson kids were very chill. I don’t understand why
maybe they formed a secret club with the other kids
I wonder what they were discussing lol-
were they discussing SVERIGE SVERIGE-
Now, everyone wanted to get out, there were outbreaks and storms as well but luckly Most
Most. I said Most, not all.
People survived. and finally they arrived to
NEWWW YOOOORK
im doing book 2 tomorrow or like in 10 years
wait i’ll be 24 in 10 years
“I really like The Emigrants by Vilhelm Moberg”
wonder if I’ll still like The Emigrants-
