Hey, my parents didn’t protect me from food poisoning either. (My parents got McDonald’s one day when we were on vacation and I got food poisoning from it, which is strange because a week or so ago I ate raw seaweed straight from my neighborhood beach and I didn’t get sick from it)

The Food Poisoning was his fault tho. He didn't observe Anna. Anna just decided to eat the porridge (which was expired) and later died from food poisoning

The weird thing is that Anna techincally Saved her brother. The porridge was originally for her baby brother Harald (The Nilsson kids were all born a year apart, except Harald. and Märta was a twin but her brother died from unspecified illness as a baby) and Anna being an older toddler, it was still harmful but the effects will be worse on somebody like Harald

Anna will probably also have a weak immune system. Not just because she's a toddler, but because of her own situation

Karl-Oskar and Kristina are really poor, and due to a crop failure and having  very little food (which is why they Emigrated in the first place) which led to the Anna (and the other kids) to being Malnourished, making them more likely to be sick (and since the series is set in the 1800s, There could be Terible illnesses)

also, random fact but during the 2nd half of the first book, Kristina gets Typhoid Fever (which causes her to have a severe Nosebleed) and survives. She almost died tho.
