The second I saw that fluffy face, there was no doubt about it. I would be taking this little gal home. It was a bright, warm, summer day in may 2009. Me and my husband have been looking for another dog ever since Gunnar, our Siberian husky died. There was only one little problem in looking for a dog: I only like large, made-for-snow, sled dogs. And, as you can imagine, it was tough finding one that fit the criteria I was looking for. At around my fifth month searching, I just about gave up. There was no hope. Or so I thought. Knowing that I wasn’t going to get the type of dog I was looking for, I strolled on in the local animal rescue. I was searching around, when suddenly, I noticed a little white fluff ball at the end of the aisle. The sign on it’s cage said: “ luna, good with other dogs, social, strong, Samoyed, abandoned, 6 months old.” I completely gawked at the sign and the puppy. Sign, puppy. Sign, puppy. A Samoyed? That couldn’t be right. I had checked all over the internet and there were no samoyeds! So I walked over to the desk that had a woman sitting behind it. She looked like your average library lady. “ are you sure that dog over there is a Samoyed?” I asked and gestured to the adorable white fuzz ball. “ yes,” she replied. “ we did a DNA test. All Samoyed.” I told her about me checking it every second of every day. “ oh, that’s because she just came in yesterday, with reports of being thrown out of a moving car.” I was almost in tears. Who in their right mind would abuse this little fuzz ball of happiness and joy? Who in their right minds would abuse ANYTHING? From turtles to kids, it’s all wrong. I asked her if she could open the fuzz balls’ kennel. (I know on the sign it said luna, but I couldn’t stop calling her that.) the woman nodded and opened the kennel. A little white blur zoomed toward me. I laughed and threw her a tennis ball. She glanced at the tennis ball for a second, then back at me. She obviously had no interest in chasing that ball. Instead, she put both her paws on my knees and gave me a puppy lick shower. I turned toward the woman. “I’d like to take her home.” She smiled. “Oh, that’s great!” “We needed an open kennel. There is a little jack russel that needs a kennel.” And so, that warm, bright, day in may, I came home with a Samoyed puppy.

This is mostly based on true events. It’s a mix. I hope you enjoyed this story. Part two coming soon!!
