I don't have a sim card or service either but that's not really for safety it's just that I'm young enough that I don't go to lots of other places that don't have wifi and don't have another phone nearby so it just saves money. Its like a mini tablet kinda lol. See if you can save up some allowence money for a newer phone. in my opinion the no service thing doesn't change too much cuz I can usually connect to some sort of wifi and I can call people when I do have wifi. But that's just me. Maybe you go to wifi-less more than me.
