Dash of Foxes Part One

Rose crouched low to the ground, her velvetly ears pricked for any sounds. Weaving around the trees in the dense, green forest made her head spin as she wove sleathily through the undergrowth. She reached a mossy clearing and settled down with her paws tucked neatly beneath her chest.

Suddenly, a noise in the bushes beyond made her jump. She whipped around, her bushy tail held close to the moist ground, and stared hard into the brambles.

A stocky golden vixen emerged from the thicket, thorns snagging on her thick pelt. Rose's lip curled as she observed the stranger, a growl forming deep in her throat., and crouched low to the soil.

"Who are you?" She spat with hatred.

The vixen stood up tall. "I am Dawn," she hissed, mimicking Rose's pose.

Feeling vulnerable, Rose deepen her stance. She narrowed her eyes, which were glowing with fury. "Leave," she told Dawn , a snarl on her lips.

"No." Dawn countered. "We are going to fight for this land, you sack of mangy fur!"

Rose tipped her head to one side. "Are you sure you want to do that?" Rose purred simply, her russet red pelt fluffed up

"Of course I am," hissed Dawn, her eyes slitted and cold. Rose could see deep in their depths, and she shivered harshly. "If I wasn't I wouldn't be here, would I, you idiotical cub!" She cursed, venom spiking her already poisonous voice. "Now, shall we fight or will you give this land to me willingly?"

In your dreams! Rose howled inside her head. She lowered herself the ground, wriggled her hindquarters, and sprang.

Dawn swept swiftly to one side. But Rose was ready. She dug one paw in her ground, twisted on it, and sailed across the clearing at the stocky vixen, her jaws gapping wide. Dawn dodged the blow, but Rose hooked onto her back with her claws all the same.

"Get off me!"Dawn yowled.

But Rose clung on, her eyes hard in determination. She dug in her claws deeper, and blood welled in the wound, splashing over her talons and staining Dawn's striking fur. Then, with one final shake, Dawn dislodged Rose from her back and sent the young red fox soaring through the air.

Rose landed clumsily on all four paws, but suddenly held up a front right paw as if it was hurt.

" OK, cub, you defeated me. But don't expect to win next time!" Dawn warned, swinging away into the gathering darkness. Rose could hear the sound of claws on leaves as the injured yellow fox clunked away into the distance, fuming silently under her breath.

Rose nodded approval. "Go. If you wish to fight again over it, then may it happen."She yelped into the blackness.

A storm rolled overhead as Rose traveled home, her paws sloshing water from cupped-like leaves as they landed in them.

i showed her, Rose thought in triumph. She won't dare show her face in my territory again.

Rose padded on, yawning widely as she reached her den, which was on the outskirts of her territory. Then she curled up inside it, taking a few seconds to prod and mold her nest with her paws.

Her paws led her back to the clearing where she had fought Dawn, only this time, she couldn't direct her pawsteps where she wanted to go. She felt dead tired. She couldn't have slept, could've she?

" I got you!" Rasped a voice close to her ear.

Rose twisted around in shock. Dawn was leaning over her, her fangs glinting white , dripping in blood.

My blood, Rose realizes in horror. No. No. Don't let it happen, please!

Rose wriggled under the huge paws Dawn had pressed to her chest. Dawn was unbelievably strong- no matter how hard Rose fought, Dawn did not give up.

"You little sack of mangy fur," she snarled in the depths of Rose's furry ear, her teeth just skimming her skin.

Rose thrashed some more. Still Dawn did not give up.

Dawn moved her claws up to her throat, blood welling up in her claws' wake.

So that was the first part of Dash of Foxes. I hope you enjoyed it. Do you think my writing is advanced for my age (I just started middle school last year)? What do you think will happen next? I will gladly add a fox you want to add in the next part in some way. Just put your opinion in the comments below! Thanks!
