HER LOST SOUL | CHAPTER ONE | PART ONE
I pick up my phone and jam my ear buds in and press play on the Hamilton playlist to drown out Mom and Dad arguing. By now, I've learned to stay out of their way until they stop. (or until they throw fists) I walk past Mom and Dad into the kitchen and pour some Rice Krispies into a small bowl. Then I choke down the cereal and quickly rush upstairs and gather all my textbooks and shove them in my bag. Thus, I volt out the front door and rush over to my best friend, Jackie's, house and knock on the door. A bed-head-still-in-pjs Jackie opens the door. I take out my ear buds and let them dangle on my neck as I pause my phone.
"Yeah?" She groans.
"We have school?" I say, annoyed.
"Oh." Jackie says, and motions for me to come inside.
"Sigh. When will you ever let us be on time?" I ask sarcastically and walk in.
"I don't know. Slacking is an art form."
I snicker.
"C'mon, help me find a decent school outfit."
