The letter from Vinny softened everyone's hearts when read. It seemed like a huge weight had been lifted off of Tony, especially. For months of what felt like years, Vinny had been radio silent, aching everyone's heart at the thought of him being... Well, you know.

And then, there was Victor, the troubling child with a chip on his shoulder. He had walked out just last night, leaving his family to shreds. If he hadn't caused enough trouble already, what would've been without Vinny's letter would've been—

It couldn'tve been more convenient for someone to knock at that door to save Tony's mind from wondering to that space. Tony got up from his seat, leaving his letter unfinished. He twisted open the door, behind it was Miles, sweating like crazy.

"What happened to you?" Exclaimed Tony, as Miles hastily walked into his room.

"Water," Miles gasped, collapsing on another seat in Tony's room.

Miles was Tony's best friend, also teammate on the basketball team he played on.

He had been a brown haired boy, Caucasian, and had some freckles on his face. He was one of the most handsome boys at school, which made it surprising that his crush didn't usually give him the time of day. Last time they talked, however, he had finally landed a date with her.

Miles's red velvet snowman sweater was darker than usual on some splotches. This made Tony think that Miles must've been freezing.

"What does water have to do with anything?" Asked Tony, immediately rushed by Miles after he screamed, "GET ME SOME WATER!".

After getting Miles some water (though a little offended at the way Miles approached asking him), he sat down on his bed, watching Miles gulp down the glass. Miles put the glass down, breathing heavily. After catching his breath, he began to speak.

"The heat finally decided to shine today," he spoke in a very fumed tone. "Just in time, too, or so I thought... It got too hot, so I started perspiring—" he stopped to wipe his face. "And then I wanted to open the window, but it wouldn't let up, and then I wanted to go downstairs, and guess who was there to meet me?"

Tony shrugged, "Who?"

"Twinky!" He shouted, almost laughing at the name. To be honest, it was a funny name for a dog as vicious as that one. It was a roughed up pitbull that was bought out of a dog-fighting competition, and the present owner of it is thought to be crazy in their eyes. Mrs. Barter ( the owner), named it Twinky because, in her mind, that beast was as sweet as the candy.

"Really? What are the odds?" Tony said, genuinely surprised.

"It doesn't stop there, as you might've guessed," Miles continued. "So, I'm walking down the stairs, and all of a sudden, I hear growling on my right. Mind you, it's as hot as heck, and I've walked down 10 flights of stairs, not even kidding, and tired as all get out. I knew that sound could only be one thing, but I still, like and idiot, turned to my right slowly, and sure enough!"

Tony couldn't help but love this story as it went on. Of course, he felt terrible for him, but the story was great.

"I dashed straight in the opposite direction as soon as I saw that demon's eyes—Did I mention that dogs run faster than kids? Learned that the hard way—And it caught up to me, slobber trailing everywhere. I ran everywhere around all the floors, trying to get away from it, but it just wouldn't stop. Did I also mention that I was tired and on fire?!"

Tony started to feel more bad as he told the story, now. "...Imagine what it's like running up the stairs faster than you can run on the floor...I guess this is what we're training for..."

Tony nodded.

"I tried running back into my apartment, but the door was locked. I yelled for ma, but she was playing her radio loudly, trying to listen for anything about dad, and I didn't have time to find my keys!" He seemed as though he cooled off a bit on the outside. "I ran down the hall, I could hear the dog as it ricocheted off the wall when it jumped, scratching my apartment door, trying to land on me, but it just about clipped me. It was losing energy, I can tell you that. I was about to give up trying to find 506, when God answered my prayers and showed it to me. It was really relieving to know your door was open—Why'd you guys leave it unlocked? That's dangerous, I'll have you know, but thanks, for this instance—So I dashed in, passing your dad, I don't know if he noticed.."

This story was really fun to listen to, even if it wasn't so fun for Miles.

Just then, Tony's father busted in the room.

"WHO LET A DOG IN?"

Tony and Miles both looked at each other. Tony, who was shaking at his father's tone and sound, knew what Miles was thinking.

"Oh —"
