Chapter 21: Elly
No light was to be shed in any corner of his conscience.
Adonis walked forward, finding that as he did so, it was in utmost difficulty. He couldn't feel the rise and collapse of his chest, signifying an absence of breathing. It was eerily quiet here. Well, he couldn't figure out where here was..
Adonis seemed to have forgotten all of what happened before he woke up in this place. Though, it didn't really seem like he had any motive to. He was calm, but for no reason. He struggled to figure out why he was so mellow.
He took the longest strides, his attention rapidly moving from one invisible scene to the other for any evidence of light.
Just then, a beam came to reveal itself in a small but strong sight. He raised his arm to shield his eyes from its overwhelming glow. It seemed to present itself with welcome, making Adonis feel somehow at ease. It faded to uncover a golden villager behind its curtain of light, reminding him of a very small toy he once had. The only toys that the Badlands gave out, something that promoted their power even more. They stopped giving the toys to everyone because it had hidden power, though Adonis didn't exactly know what power it held.
He reached out to touch what he felt was an old friend. Something destroyed by people he loathed, coming back again to guide him from all worry. It blinked its beautiful green eyes and came closer to his hands, rubbing its head against his palm. He smiled, as he knew this was its way of letting him know that it truly was the same toy. "Elly," he said softly. The toy squinted its eyes in joy, and let out a cute noise.
Adonis pulled it in for an embrace, and the toy gladly accepted his offer. He could feel its power overcome him like a wave of love he had never felt before. Its glow seemed to increase as he held it close to his body. It was starting to blind him a bit, though he never once thought to let go. He didn't want anything else. He just wanted to stay here.
The light suddenly became so apparent that his whole consciousness was filled with a beaming front. He felt his feet lift from the ground and saw all dark retreat to a small minimum in one corner. He relaxed his grip on the toy and it distanced away from him a few square inches.
The toy closed its eyes, making itself brighter than ever before. When it opened them, the white glow it had blinded him completely. He couldn't see, nor feel. But the only thing he heard was angelic chanting from an unknown source. His breathing became noticeable again.
Adonis inhaled air that felt like a new life, catching one glimpse of his little friend before it spun itself around and descended out of view.
Afterwards, he ripped open his eyes to feast them on the midnight moon. His steady inhaled became gasps for air, and he quickly shifted his head from trees, to grass, to sky, and finally rested them on his gawking friend.
"ADONIS!" Shera was screaming, tears dripping from her profile, accompanied by some snot. She was hovered over him, and he seemed to have his back on the ground.
He could feel a painstaking headache arise from the side of his skull. He bit his tongue in order to stop the pain from spreading, but to no avail. "Y-you're alive!"
"Of course I am," he said sort if irritably. Shera kissed him on the forehead, and taking him aback. Once she removed herself, she stared at him with eyes that spoke without words, "Wait, what did I just do?"
His eyes couldn't help but get wide, the moment being broken by people he knew far too well from earlier ripping her away from his sight. A cloaked foe presented themself. "You are in the Emerald Lady's territory. You will be awaiting trial in a prison that we will locate you to immediately. Get up!"
Adonis had a hard tike lifting his weak body, especially with his torso tied. The cloaked person helped him, aggressively so. He quickly forgot the moment he had with Shera, now thinking about his friends. How would they be able to find him? Would they be able to find him?
He wished he was still out, embracing the toy he once had.
