Chapter 11: Through The Nether
As they trudged through the crimson floor, Adonis pondered on his newfound feeling. He felt triumphant, but not over anything specific. It was an odd feeling indeed. Preston, though, looked ecstatic. His eyes were twinkling in the surrounding fire-lit light, his smile brightening the area even more so.
He took long strides to catch up with Preston, wondering if he felt the same way he did. "Hey," he whispered to Preston as he walked alongside him. He didn't answer, still marveling at the vast biome of what Adonis knew to be netherrack. He had heard about it in books that he stole from the BL Library, about the Nether Dimension. He read all about it, even though it was forbidden.
"Preston!" He said a little louder that time, finally catching his attention. "Oh, hi boss!" He replied happily. "What do you need?"
"You're overly excited about something. Mind filling me in?" Adonis meddled. Preston took a deep breath, looked around once more in awe for a moment, and turned back to Adonis. "I dunno, I just... I'm happy."
Adonis couldn't help but also feel the inexplicable happiness being present. There was this euphoric sense of energy, it filled the, though ominous and intimidating, but home-like dimension. Adonis felt as if this was where he was supposed to be.
He looked to the front if the group, the people leading were the escorts and the twins. The twins were excitedly conversing with the other pair of siblings, looking up to the older children.
He took a deep breath, it felt like an exuberant fire in his lungs, and he loved it. This was home...
Then there was a distorted cry, followed by an explosion. "GHASTS!" exclaimed Shera, "EVERYONE, TAKE COVER!" Wayne had covered his ears and whined in agony, the noise was earsplitting, to be fair. Shawn pulled out what seemed to be a bow, but it had a purple sheen to it. It looked magical..
He pulled back it's string and released a powerful arrow that glowed with a tiny flame. The ghast was hit and wailed in discomfort, but it wasn't dead yet. It responded with a terribly large fireball the size of a ravager. It hit its target. Shawn was thrown up to the air, into the ragged ceiling, and met the ground again with a deafening thump. "SHAWN!" Screamed Shera, but she was drowned out almost completely by the ruckus.
She ran full force towards the ghast, Adonis looking away before seeing whatever happened next. He was too focused on the fact that Wayne wasn't shielded, instead he was cowering out in the open. "Wayne! Come here!" He called, but Wayne seemed yo not have heard him.
But then, in the corner of Adonis' eye, there was a black ball heading for his friend. Time seemed to slow down for what seemed like hours. It showed a tense scene of Shera sprinting right into her doom, of Wayne's tears dripping from his face as he braced for impact, and Wayne's friends screaming at him to come and take cover.
And then there was an explosion...
...
...
The fireball had hit a target...
...
But not it's intended target.
When the fumes cleared, Wayne was seen still cowering and bracing himself for any damage, but shielding him was someone Adonis had forgotten about yet again.
Maxine!
Maxine had a mischievous grin on her face as she was rivaling the ghast's fireball with her own magma fire. She beamed her powers into the ghast's, making it so that the magma ball reversed the fireball into it's sender. "TIME TO GET A TASTE OF YOUR OWN POTION!" She said confidently. The ghast replied with it's own last cry before falling out if the bloody atmosquare, it itself turning red before burning into ashes.
The ruckus had died down, leaving Adonis shaking and paralyzed in his position. He had watched the whole thing in what was expected to be a horrifying tragedy, but came out as an inexplicably amazing victory. "Wha... How... LITERALLY WHAT IN THE NETHER JUST HAPPENED?!" Sage blurted, sparing Adonis a word. "I saved you guys! Simple!" Maxine replied triumphantly. Sage just stood there with her mouth hanging open. Preston had a dead stare on his face, and the twins were holding each other tightly in a corner.
Adonis managed to pull himself up, immediately running to his safe friend. "WAYNE!" He cried, sliding on the ground, straight to him, and giving him a tight hug. Sage and the twins did the same, but Preston was still frozen in his stance.
"Wait what... Why don't I get a hug!? I'M THE ONE WHO ALMOST DIED, FOR GOODNESS SAKE!" Maxine hollered. The other's were too busy crying their eyes out. Maxine through her hands up in the air and sighed, "Why not?", then joined in on the hug. Adonis ripped himself from the crying party to turn his head over to Preston, who was still standing in shock.
Then his fearful expression turn into a beaming smile. "THAT WAS SO AWESOME!!!" He yelled, jumping up and down. Adonis was really freaked out of what had gotten into him. It was like someone flicked a lever inside if him that went from traumatized to excited in one split second.
Wayne grunted, "Get off, guys, you're making me more hot than I already am!"
"Oh, sorry!" They all said in unison. Preston went up to Wayne, "You took that like a champ! You didn't even flinch!" He said excitedly. Maxine cleared her throat loudly, "Did I transform into a creeper or are you seriously ignoring me right now—"
"Oh, hi Maxine! Yeah, you were so brave!" Replied Preston. Adonis was still in shock about what happened, leading him to all of a sudden shoot up and exclaim, "Shera!"
He had no idea what had happened to those two siblings. "Sheraaaa!" Sage chimed in, and then the others started calling for their names. You would hear, "Shera!" echo through every inch of the dimension.
Adonis went a little farther into the dimension, spotting Shera bent over her brother, crying. "Shera!" Adonis called, making her abruptly turn her head and quickly wipe the tears off her face. "Wha—what happened?" He asked quietly, seeing the sight if Shawn. "I've been trying to look for a healing splash potion, but I have none!" She replied, not being able to hold back her tears anymore. Shawn looked as if he was fading fast. Adonis couldn't believe he was about to say this, but..
"I wish I could help you... But I don't have any of those potions on me.."
She cried harder, snot trickling from her nose. It started to burst into a small flame and completely evaporated atop her lip. "So.. So I'm gonna lose him?"
Adonis put a sorry hand on her shoulder. She wailed, almost resembling the ghast from earlier. "I'm so, so sorry Shera.."
"Don't get too despondent just yet," said a voice from afar. Adonis recognized that voice...
It was Evan who came out of nowhere and held a splash potion, which was a mixture of red and pink. "Brace yourselves!" He said, throwing the potion on Shawn's body with a pure glass smash. "But, how—" Shera began.
"I know Netherborns like us aren't supposed to have things like this, but I have a knack for stealing anything that might come in handy one day... The BL Bank is hiding all sorts of illegal items. You should sue the source, not the customer!"
The potion started to work it's magic. Its particles lingered for a long moment, and Shawn's body absorbed it within a few minutes, soaking up all of its energy. He woke up with a cough, abruptly sitting up and almost bonking into Evan's head. "Woah! Worked better than I thought!" Evan laughed.
Shera also started laughing, sniffing in between giggles. She suddenly gave her brother a huge embrace, and Adonis could hear her muffled voice inside his shoulder say, "I thought I lost you.."
"You're not getting rid of me just yet!" He replied jubilantly. Adonis couldn't help but smile once more. The two reminded him of Sage and himself. They were always so close, goofing around even in serious situations. They always had each other's back. Adonis and Sage both knew the other wasn't going anywhere.
And the crew was bound to stay together forever.
