After Lord Varik left that small village, he happened to see this strange creature in this small field. Varik stopped to take a quick look at the beast but still couldn't see exactly what it was. He then got off of his steed and walked towards the beast. When he finally got close enough to throw a stone at it, he realized it was a wolf, but not just any wolf, it was the one that Lord Varik saved when he was a young boy. Varik was astonished when he saw the wolf, for he thought the wolf died in a blizzard. Varik then walked even closer to the beast, until the wolf told him to stop. At once he stopped, and did not dare to move. The wolf then asked the man his name, ''Varik'' answered the man, but the wolf seemed to pay no heed to the answer. The wolf then asked what he was doing, Varik gave an answer, until the wolf said ''Silence''! Then Varik asked the name of the wolf, the wolf answered ''Zavala''. The wolf then said to Varik that the trail would be haunted by great spirits, and that he would like to accompany him on his quest.
Varik was then very pleased to hear Zavala's request, and at once said ''YES''. The wolf then said that they should take the Eastern trail, but Varik told the wolf that the trail would take them to Cyridill, and that it would be unwise, for the country is in a great Civil War. But the wolf said ''We shall go where the wind blows'' this answer surprised Varik, for he was not into riddles. Varik then obeyed the wolf and took the Eastern Trail to Cyridill.
