Chapter 2
May 19th, 2002, Present Day
Clink clink, the forks in the cafeteria hall went as its occupants ate fine foods. It was 9:46 AM in Seattle, Washington, and the children who were to board the nearing train were having a banquet before they head off to one of the most prestigious camps. These children were heirs of wealthy families—the most well known, for that. Ranging from ages 11-14, these children were to harness their economically favoring abilities. This brought to fact that many of these prosperous families had more than a few offspring—that seemed to be the only way something as exceptional as this may be packed.
Those were the thoughts that raced through Nicolas Everpane's head as he seated himself at the loneliest booth. It shouldn't be any surprise that this station had booths; luxurious ones. He ran his fingers along the Burgundy leather seat that was trimmed with fine gold, admiring its heavenly feel. He hoped no one would ruin this tranquil moment he was having on his own...
"Hello!"
Of course, nothing lasts forever, he thought as he steered his eyes upward to meet the one who made that dreaded greeting.
It was another boy, with beautiful, mahogany hair that was quite messy. His eyes were a piercing blue that probably caught many off guard, not to mention the biggest smile Nicolas had ever seen. The boy stuck his hand out to shake, not breaking his glacial blue stare.
"I'm Zachary, Zachary Abbycat. I'm from the Abbycat Family... As you could probably tell by my last name, haha," he said with a nervous laugh. Nicolas didn't find this interruption as amusing, and he didn't attempt to crack a smile. Zachary gulped. "What's your name?"
The train, which seemed to have appeared out of thin air, screeched its air into all ears.
