So uhh…. Welcome back to my endless Nordic folk song rant. Because I am dealing with No Upvote life
So, I was scrolling through Youtube today before school (we have to be there by 6:45am, and we have to wait 1 hour for all the kids to arrive) and I keep seeing one Nordic song that I haven’t listened to in 4 months… fattig bonddräng.
Basically the song is about a poor farmer who spends a lot of his time farming (floor made out of floor theory) and one day he decides to stop farming and fight people, go to parties and trying to find a girlfriend. The next day when he went to church (all Nordic folk songs have to be acossiated with weddings or churches, the only execptions are Viking and Sami folk songs) and learns what he was doing was very wrong, so he went back to farming and became rich.
The song gives off Danjel from The Emigrants vibes (he did some wrong things, he is poor, he is a farmer and he is Swedish) Even thought this song was written in the 1940s, and the Nordic-American immigration era started in the 1830s) and what is ironic is that the song is meant to be a children’s song, yet it also has questionable lines. ( I mean, if Scandinavian(-American) kids were able to learn about Norse Mythology at like 6 years old, sure why not) so it makes no sense.
Now, This isn’t just a song that appeared once on my feed. It appeared a lot. I listened to a lot of versions today, and my favorite has to be Ellie Stjerna's version
So uhh, this is just my endless rant on some Nordic folk song that only is known among Swedish(-American) people so yes. This is like my 3rd song rant (btw, offtopic but the reason I put (-American) is to include Scandinavian-Americans because there are people who dont think theyre real Scandinavians, and I disagree with them so to show support
