chapter one
Freya
Once upon a time, there was a kitten called Freya. She was orange and had small blue eyes and very big ears. She was so cute [at least according to humans]. She was also feral. Her only friends were the Mama Cat's kittens Sally, Jane, Hissy Growl-Growl, and Samwise Gamgee.
One blustery evening, Sally and Freya were asleep when a girl of about twelve years old came running up to them, intending to pet Freya. Her name was Frances Tomblin. She had long brown hair and brilliant blue eyes and wore black-framed glasses. Sally was a chubby calico kitten with yellow eyes. Freya and her friend ran off into the woods, afraid of Frances.
''That was close,'' panted Sally.
''Who was that girl'' asked Freya.
''Frances Tomblin.'' Sally answered.
