Silens I Chapter 4
Asia's POV
Months passed quickly, but after a while I fell into more of a painful state. The scars spread eerily across my body but I paid them no mind, hoping that if I hid my pain, that the others would mistake it for me being okay.
Tom was over with Willow again, I noted, when I got up and went to kitchen. Lucas helped support me there. Willow's eyes were amber and her hair was in a neat bun, but she had a look of concertation on her face. With a relieved look she said to me,
"Great! You're up! Can, can you help me with the stew? Hazyl's in the parking lot and I think she's getting into an argument with a muggle."
I blinked, forgetting we were in the hotel.
"Sure," I said weakly, and pulled up a tall chair so I could sit and stir the stew.
Willow smiled, hugged me gently, and pounded out of the room, opening the hotel door with a snap and closing it again hard. While I stirred the stew, I heard Hazyl and the muggle in a heated argument:
"Whatcha mean, there's no rivers around here?"
"I told you, ma'am, this is New York, we don't have that many rivers!"
"Well, direct me where there are some!!!"
"Ehhhhh, oh my, you can try the--"
"Hey, Willow, stop!"
"I'm sorry, sir, my friend's just having her time of the month. C'mon, Hazyl."
"I had my time of the month a week ago, lemme go--"
"No, cmon Hazyl. Sorry to bother you, sir."
I smiled to myself as Willow burst through the door, Hazyl on her heels. Hazyl had changed her look a bit, she looked more-punky-ish. Eh. They went to sit down and Willow asked Hazyl why she was looking for rivers, Hazyl said because merpeople were awesome at directions and that's what she needed.
Lucas came up behind me and steadied me as I pulled out my wand and cast a few spells in the pot. "It'll make it taste better," I promised Hazyl, at the sight of her raised eyebrows, as Tom made his way to the couch in the conjoined small living room.
"Huh," said Hazyl, tasting it, "that's pretty good."
"Told ya," I said groggily.
Tom helped serve the meal and we all sat down. After we began eating, Hazyl said, "Everyone, I think we're safe for now."
Everyone lit up. "Really?" we all said.
Hazyl nodded, a small smile on her face. "The Ministry has caught Handison. I'm sure that before long he'll break out and come after us, but that'll be months ahead. So, I think we can finally get a house."
I gulped down a steaming mouthful of beef. "Like, anchored to the ground?"
"Yes," said Hazyl. "And we could all have our own. The Ministry's paying."
"Nice," said Tom.
"So, we could start our lives?" said Lucas, quietly. I glanced at him, and so did everyone else. He was grinning. "No more running for a little while, right?" Hazyl nodded and he pressed on, "Maybe I could live with Asia?"
I blinked, hard. "Well... living with you with a lot of people is different. Living with you alone is sorta daunting to me," I said. "We'd have to get married or something, and frankly, we're not engaged, and we don't know if we want to be with each other forever."
"You've only dated one person," said Willow serenely.
Lucas shook his head. "It's different, I feel whole with you, when you were taken and when you died before, I felt... broken."
"So did everyone," said Hazyl gently.
"Not like how I did. Asia's my... this may sound cheesy, but it's true, she's my soulmate, my missing piece." Then he took a deep breath. "I want to marry her, but I don't know how to tell her, like wizards do, with the down on one knee thing."
I smiled. "You don't have to do that."
He smiled back, but I felt a sort of sadness in his eyes, like he really did. So, hastily, Tom turned the conversation to something else. "So, when do we get to see our parents again?" he directed at Hazyl and Willow.
Willow thought, but Hazyl had an answer. "Whenever you want, when we're out of here," she beamed.
Tom grinned. Lucas smiled, and I felt happier.
The next day, it was time to part.
"We have a few houses up and ready," said Hazyl. "Willow and I will be sharing one until one of us gets married, then that one can move out,"
"I want you to get married so I can have it all to myself," said Willow teasingly.
Hazyl raised an eyebrow. "What about Mr. Blonde-n-Wonderful, the gentlemen Tom?" she said seriously, and Willow blushed all the way up to the brown roots of her hair. She stuttered and then resolved to say,
"W-what? You haven't found anyone yet?"
Hazyl grinned widely. "Nope," she said. "I'll start looking, though,"
I smiled. "What about us?" I gestured to me, Tom, and Lucas. We were all siting in the living room area of the hotel room. Lucas was holding my waist from behind to help me stand a bit better.
"Tom and Lucas can have a house, and Asia, you can come with us until Lucas pops the question and you two can have a house," Willow said. I gulped and Lucas squeezed me reassuringly as I teetered.
I nodded. "Okay," I said.
That afternoon, that's what happened.
