Emma bounced across the room. "You're here!"
"Yup."
"Did you know that Ms. Smith is going out with Mx. Elliot?! I know. I'm shocked too. I never pictured someone that pretty to be gay. No hate, or anything, though."
"Okay. Well, where's Sage?"
Cassie scanned Emma's house for any sign of them.
"Oh, she's coming soon."
Cassie internally winced. Sage had planned on coming out to Emma that night, but she wasn't so sure if that would be a good idea, based on Emma's reaction to the two teachers.
A car pulled up, and Cassie heard faint voices. "I know, Mom."
"I'm just saying, a girl like you shouldn't be hanging out with-"
Then the car door slammed.
"Is she okay?"
Another wince. "We'll just find out. I don't want to say much, but Sage's home situation has not been the best."
"Oh."
The doorbell rang. Cassie ran to get it.
"Hey," Sage said. They hastily put away their 'they/them' pin.
"Good luck. Emma's been. . .something tonight," Cassie said, putting her arm on Sage's shoulder before quickly pulling it back, blushing.
Sage smiled and walked into the living room. "Hi."
"Sage!!! Is everything alright?" Emma asked.
"Yeah. I just needed to tell you something. Cassie, you can go in the other room."
Cassie listened in on their conversation for a second before picking up the notebook Emma had had earlier. It had a few messy stick figures that resembled Sage and Cassie on the cover. She closed it and shoved it in her bag.
"So, am I the first one you've told?" Emma asked.
"No, I wanted to wait."
"Oh. . ." Emma appeared hurt. Cassie unlocked her phone just in case.
"It has nothing to do with you, it's just a decision. My parents-"
"I don't care about your parents. And why did you just approach me like that? People like you are just so. . ."
Cassie pulled Sage out of the room and said, "Let's get out of here."
To Emma, she said, "We're leaving."
- *I'm playing with POVs, so it's kind of a mess. Bear with me*
Once they got out of the house, they called Cassie's parents. "Hi! Uh, yeah, can you pick us up? Yeah, Sage is here. Just-something happened. Yeah. . ."
Sage listened in, watching Cassie run her fingers through her hair. It was almost cute. Almost. They didn't think they would have a crush on Cassie.
From inside, she heard Emma's mother say, "Can I get you girls anything? Wait-"
Before Sage could continue listening, Cassie hung up, saying, "Alright, bye."
"So?" Sage asked.
"Let's go."
-
By the time they got there, it was kind of dark.
"Let's get food and then just rest. What was going on earlier? You know, with your mom? You don't have to answer, it's just. . ."
"Well, she still thinks I'm a girl, she and Dad are acting like toddlers and refusing to speak to each other, and she thinks you're gay."
"I am neptunic. . ."
"I know, but it's not the same."
"Sorry dinner's not exciting," Cassie's mother said. "We didn't expect guests. Stay as long as you need to."
Cassie's father looked up from the stove. "We're having pasta."
"Oh. That's nice," Sage said. "Thanks again."
They went up to Cassie's room. Cassie sat down on a chair. "Are you sure it's fine?"
"Yeah. Usually I have a sandwich."
Cassie hugged Sage.
"Mphgh," Sage said, which was meant to be some sort of 'what was that for?'
"You needed it," Cassie said.
"Thanks."
*Okay, tell me your feedback and tell me-kiss or no? And also, there will be a few new characters arriving, and maybe a few new ships *cackles*. Anyway.*
