Terence stared at me intently. "Soooo. . ."
I looked up from my coffee and said, "What?"
"Nothing." He stared at Luka. "He's so cute."
I blinked. "I'm not into guys."
"I know. He's just so cute."
I rolled my eyes, but at the same time, I wish I could be that happy with Sage. As friends. Of course.
Luka turned around in his chair to look at Terence and grinned. "Is she coming over to Addie's?"
"Oh, yeah! A few of us are staying over at Addie's."
"Who?"
"Me, Luka, Moira, Peyton, and Nathan. And of course, Addie."
"I'll talk to Sage about it."
Luka smirked, and Terence laughed.
"What?"
"Nothing."
Once we finished breakfast, we walked around in a garden. Terence took a bunch of group pictures, and finally it was time to go the library.
"So, you know the posters that were up around school?" Moira asked.
"Yeah. The horrible ones?"
There had been awful posters up around the school saying LGBTQ+phobic things. They were taken down, so then there was writing on the lockers and walls that took too long to scrub off.
Eventually the janitor had given up, which was not okay.
"We're planning on dealing with them," Gemmy said.
Luka nodded. "We'll have posters advertising books by queer authors, telling people to join GSA, quotes, things like that."
We wrote down quotes and books and I sketched out the poster plans. The posters would cover up the slurs on the walls and would replace the other posters.
By the time we had walked home from the library, I had seven sheets of paper rolled up in my bag, and we said good bye to everyone who wouldn't be at Addie's.
Sage and I walked side by side, and I texted my parents, saying that I still had my stuff in my bag from last night.
"What am I going to tell Emma?" Sage asked. "That we hate her?"
"I don't know."
"And that book!"
"I have it with me."
Sage raised an eyebrow. "Cassie?"
"We'll write about it later."
Once we arrived at Addie's, I pulled out the book.
Everyone else was eating snacks, but I read it out loud. "Sage is definitely a ****. She likes Cassie. Obviously. Not saying it's not fine, it's just weird. And not safe."
"Nobody understands. . ." Sage said. I hugged them while they continued to read the horrible things.
We looked up once music started to play.
"Guys, I just made this playlist! Wait, I forgot to put 'The Village' in-" Moira said.
Addie grinned and kissed them on the cheek. "Of course you did."
We showed everyone the book.
"Wait, who wrote this?!" Luka asked. I assumed he was talking about the slurs. "All these things and then, 'I think I'm aromantic?' This makes no sense!"
I shoved it back into my bag. "Our ex-friend. Oh my god, I hate that girl. She thinks it's okay to say those things?! It's not cool to be homophobic, even if you are closeted."
"We can't tell her, though!" Nathan said.
"Yeah, that wouldn't be cool either," Peyton said.
I groaned into my hands.

"So, you like Sage?" Addie asked. Nathan giggled.
"What."
"It's obvious," Peyton said, not looking up from his phone.
Luka fell off of his chair.
"Is that what you two were laughing about earlier?! I can't believe you!"
I threw my candy at Terence and Luka.
Terence blinked innocently. "No! Never!"
"No comment. You'll throw a pillow at me," Moira said.
"Is it that obvious?! How do you all know!"
They all screeched in an 'I knew it' way.
Sage, who had clearly been at the bedroom door for a while opened it and said, "What's going on?"
They clearly knew, and we all stopped talking.
They pulled me into the hallway.
"Cass. . .Cassie, I like you too."
I felt like I could both scream and run away at the same time. I smiled really wide, and I think Sage was concerned.
"And you're nice and smart and funny and cute and talented and -"
I blushed more and more every word they said.
"And I've wanted to, like, kiss you, and-"
"So do I."
"Right now?! Because if you don't want to-"
It got increasingly awkward.
"Because I want to, and-"
Suddenly they were really close. We were like that for a few seconds before we heard, "You know the door's open? We've been watching you for a while."
We turned around and closed the door. "Really great moment to do that, people!" I said through the door.
"Sooo. Are we dating now? What's going on?"
"Uh. I'll just make it awkward. . ."
We burst out laughing.
"I mean, I don't know. We just. . .yeah. So, maybe?"
"It's fine. We'll figure it out," they said. "For now, at least we know that?"
