“Alright, first combat mission, Ray, lets do this.” Luke said. “Ready as ever, lets tear em up.” Ray replied. It was March 1968. Vietnam War. Luke and Ray were Marines. “SEMPER FI, DO OR DIE!” Their Lieutenant yelled before their platoon was about to enter the helicopters. That was followed by chants. “CHARLIE GOT SPOTTED 4 MILES EAST OF THE RIVER. UP NEAR THE VALLEY. UNLIKE THE USUAL ROUTE, WE’LL TAKE A DETOUR THROUGH THE DARK RUN RIVER! LET’S GO!” Lieutenant Cooper said. They went into the helicopters. They spotted some U.S. army soldiers down near the river. They then showed their absolute dominance over them. These Marines had high morale and big confidence. “ALRIGHT RAY WE’RE DROPPIN’!” Luke said to Ray. They dropped down. They immediately started searching for Vietnamese soldiers. A soldier threw a grenade at the marines. Thankfully, it missed. It alerted the Marines of their position. “FIX BAYONETS!” Lieutenants Cooper yelled. They fixed their bayonets and charged on orders. They found the Vietnamese soldiers. Some were killed with the bayonets, some with gunfire. The Marines only had two wounded, with Luke and Ray being fine. “Hold onto that M60, Ray, you might need it, i heard some footsteps that weren’t ours.” Luke whispered to Ray. “Everyone shuttup. I hear something.” Lieutenant Cooper said. “CHARGE!!!” The Vietcong soldiers said in Vietnamese. Everyone got ready to fire.
Ray shot at the VC soldiers, while Luke held the belt. Eventually, the Marines took them out. They hadn’t suffered any dead, but 12 men got wounded, with 3 of them being major wounds. They returned to the helicopter and went back to base. “Ray, we did pretty good for our first mission.” Luke said. “Yeah. You think we’ll be fine?” Luke said.
“We’re still here.” Ray replied.
Hope you enjoyed.
