the gunshot that wasn't
The next afternoon, Freya was in another driveway with her other two friends Jane and Samwise. Jane was also a calico, even though she was slightly skinnier and much, much fluffier than her sister, and she and her brother were the cutest of their mother's kittens, including their older brother, Nox. Sam was a fat orange cat with fluffy fur and hazel eyes. Nox was a solid black cat with bright green eyes.
Freya and her friends were cleaning each other when a brown dog came bounding towards them.
''How dare you break into my owners' driveway.'' growled the dog.
''RUN.'' Freya screamed as the dog came closer. Samwise and Jane sprinted for the sidewalk when they heard a loud explosion. There was smoke. Lots and lots of smoke. Coughing, Sam and Jane ran to their crying friend.
''Freya.'' coughed Sam. ''What happened''
''My leg and tail are dead.'' wailed Freya. ''A boy shot me.''
Tears filled Samwise's eyes. ''Oh, no.'' he said. And he ran off.
